Gleaning Season Number 4 for Foodcloud & Lidl

Meade Potato Company were delighted to team up with FoodCloud for our fourth season gleaning (gathering leftover crops in the field after harvest to give to people in need). Joining them on the day were staff from Lidl Ireland who were on a volunteer day; employees from Lidl are encouraged to use volunteer days to help their favoured charities. This group of volunteers are helping the #foodforireland campaign by FoodCloud by organising donations from gleaning and in-store.

To mark the occasion of the fourth season of gleaning, Meade’s gave FoodCloud a print by Jules Breton entitled The Gleaners from the National Gallery of Ireland. Meade’s have assisted FoodCloud in piloting a gleaning network since 2016; the aim is to develop the programme so that it is widespread throughout Ireland and a part of every harvest. Food waste is the third highest most scalable solution to climate change in the world and gleaning represents a way to prevent in-field crop loss.
