Packaging
Here are some of our sustainable packaging initiatives with guidance on how to reuse or recycle them.
100% Compostable Bag
Our innovative Meade 2kg White Potato bag eliminates hard to recycle plastic from our pillow pack bags. It is 100% compostable and is intended for disposal in your brown bin. It uses 34% less paper than traditional paper bagging machines and is more energy-efficient to pack than paper baggers for smaller volumes. It is made with all natural materials - paper, water-based ink, corn starch bio-plastic - which means it will break down in an industrial composting environment.

100% Home Compostable Bag
For those consumers who want to eliminate hard to recycle plastic who also have their own compost system at home, we have developed a 100% home compostable bag for our Meade brand produce. The bag appears to resemble normal plastic but is made with a bio-plastic (starch-based) that enables it to safely biodegrade. We only use small amounts of safe, bio-degradable ink to ensure that the entire bag is certified by TUV to successfully compost at home. It can also be placed in your brown bin for industrial composting.

Paper Bag with 100% Cotton Mesh
Our paper bag for larger volumes of potatoes uses water-based ink that is not harmful to the environment. We have replaced the non-recyclable mesh on the window with 100% cotton so that the whole bag can either be recycled as a paper product or can be placed in home compost or your brown bin.

Cardboard Carriers
Cardboard carriers are used for some products as they are fully recyclable and can be placed in your green bin. These replace the plastic trays with flow wrap and/or the giro bags traditionally used for certain products. We use water-soluble inks so that they can be better recycled and are not harmful to the environment.

Loose Produce
Over 16 of our lines have been moved to loose format. This eliminates all packaging except the outer shipping box.
